The Jungle around La Selva

A hike through the jungle revealed beautiful creatures of incredible variety. Here are just a few photos of what we saw.

Walking through the jungle with Ian and our fantastic guide, Rodrigo. He was able to point out birds and animals we would never have seen on our own.

There were at least 6 different varieties of monkey, each one faster than the last one.

Scarlet Macaw.

The parrot lick is a big draw for tourists, and what a show! I took this photo with Ian's new 400mm lens.

Hoatzin.

An extra large bamboo. Everything in the jungle comes in extra, extra large!

Ian and Rodrigo.

Extra large Millipede.

I believe this is a Dragon Lizard.

The dining room at La Selva, just thought I'd throw in. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the lodge payment, as are the guides.

A scary, beautiful spider.

Nature's protection.
Staff member who helped with the boats.

Me, after 10
hours in the jungle hiking up steep hills and being incredibly rugged :-)

Napo river view.

Pedro, a guide, and Rhiannon, our friend we met there, Piranha fishing.

Marco, a guide, also Piranha fishing. Some were served for dinner that evening. I swam in the same water, but they don't bite people, just fresh meat bait.

On a hike with Rhiannon, her mom, Susan and our 2 guides.

Bromeliads growing on everything.

Bullet Ant, named because it's bite feels like a bullet. Marco picked it up, but don't do this at home.
