More from our week in Quito

Just a few more photos, if you can stand a few more :-)

Vegetarian rolls at a Thai restaurant, not very Ecuadorian...

Night view from our hotel room.

Plaza Foch and the hotel in the background I booked for our next stay in Quito.  NĂ¼ House Hotel.  As all roads lead back to Quito all hotels have a 'keep your bags until you get back' policy and we seem to always leave a bag or two. I've found some excellent deals on hotel rooms by booking with www.hotelscombined.com

We're eating very well, and not just fruit, but fruit makes the best pictures!

Artisan market.

Our bus to Mitad Del Mundo where we stand on the equator!!

  1. The market picture is amazing. How can you resist buying all the blankets? Looks like Che on the motorcycle. Great shots of straddling the equator. We did that in Greenwich in England on the Prime Meridian. Did you, can you do the whirlpool test? Fill the bathtub with water, let it out and watch the whirlpool. In the North, it's counterclockwise in the South it's clockwise. We did that in Australia - it was clockwise and we said to each other, "Is that right?" forgetting whether it went CCW or CW back home. A colleague of mine says he read about an experiment by some guys on a Discovery Channel show or something where they did the whirlpool 50 meters North of the line and 50 meters South of the line, then right on the line. It worked! You might be able to do it with a quart bottle of water, pouring it straight out and seeing what happens inside the bottle as it exits.

Cool pictures, once in a Lifetime ones.
